Reading the service marks

These are the 8 highest-ranked heating and cooling companies across the Greater Toronto Area right now, ordered by HeatPumpIndex's published score out of 100 rather than by who paid. Every card shows that score, the real Google rating and review count, and a direct way to reach the business.

What does HeatPumpIndex cover?

HeatPumpIndex covers 6 categories across the Greater Toronto Area, from whole-home air source installs and cold climate systems to ductless mini splits, repairs, geothermal and heat pump water heaters, so you can compare companies that do the exact work you need instead of general contractors. Behind the directory sits a dataset of 618 businesses, each carrying a published score out of 100, at an average rating of 4.8 stars across 586 rated companies. Every category hub ranks the companies working in that trade by the HeatPumpIndex score, never ad spend, then links straight to the company's profile: call it directly if it has claimed its listing, or send a request that reaches HeatPumpIndex otherwise. How does HeatPumpIndex work?

HeatPumpIndex turns a scattered search into three steps. You compare companies ranked by the HeatPumpIndex score, check the going market price, and you send a request to one. The whole directory is free to browse, and you are never obligated to hire.

  1. Compare ranked companies

Browse any of 6 services or your GTA area and see companies ranked by the HeatPumpIndex score, not ad spend.

  2. Check real pricing

Every category has a cost guide sourced from named Canadian sources, so you know the going rate before you reach out.

  3. Send a request

A company that has claimed its listing publishes the number it wants you to call. For every other row, the request form reaches HeatPumpIndex.

How does HeatPumpIndex rank companies?

Every company carries one published score out of 100, and that score sets the order. Reviews and reputation are worth 45 of it, what a company states on its own website 30, and its website and record 25. The star rating is blended toward the dataset average of 4.8 using a 10-review prior, so a 5.0 on 4 reviews cannot leapfrog a 4.8 on 300. The middle pillar reads sentences off each company's own website - what it says about its trade registrations, its insurance and how long it has been going - and nobody here has checked any of it, which is why every one of those lines is worded as “Says it…”. Across the 618 listings the score runs 23 to 90. No company can buy a higher position.

What should you ask before you sign a heat pump quote?

Before you sign with any Greater Toronto Area installer, these are the questions that separate a designed system from a guessed one. Each answer tells you whether the sizing, the electrical work and the scope actually hold up.

  • Can I see the heat loss calculation this size is based on?
  • Which model and capacity are you quoting, and what is its output at our design temperature? What the equipment tier changes
  • Did you do an electrical load calculation, and does the panel need upgrading? Where a panel upgrade lands
  • What carries the house below the balance point: backup heat, the furnace, or nothing?
  • Is commissioning included, with the measured airflow and refrigerant charge written down?

HeatPumpIndex questions, answered

How does HeatPumpIndex rank heat pump installers?

HeatPumpIndex gives every company one published score out of 100, and that score sets the order. Reviews carry 45 of it, what a company states on its own website carries 30, and its website and record carry 25. Review volume is weighed, so a 5.0 on 4 reviews cannot outrank a 4.8 on 300. No business can pay to rank higher, and every row of the arithmetic is printed on each company's profile and on our methodology page.

Is HeatPumpIndex free to use?

Yes. Browsing all 618 businesses and reading cost guides on HeatPumpIndex is completely free. Listing is free for contractors too. When you find the firm you want, you send it a request from its profile. A company that has claimed its listing also publishes the number it wants you to call.
